Video Poker Terms

Below we have created a glossary of common poker terms, we hope this will help you to understand, any terms which may be new to you when visiting our site. If you come across any terms you do not understand please be sure to let us know and we will get them added to this page.

Complete Hand - A hand that is defined by all five cards - a flush, straight, full house, four of a kind or a straight flush.

Deck - All the cards used in the game. Also referred to as a Pack.

Denomination - The denomination of each card is its number from two through ten, or is Jack, Queen, King or Ace.

Deuces - Deuces are cards that have a value of 2 such as the 2 of Spades or the 2 of hearts.

Draw - To request new cards from the Deck.

Face Cards - Jack, Queen and King cards of any suit.

Hold - To keep the cards you want during a game. Click on a card to hold it.

House - The Casino you are playing at.

Kicker - The unpaired card used to determine the better of two near-equivalent hands.

Optimal Game Play - Optimal Game Play is when the game is played according to the Optimal Play Strategy. The Strategy is designed to give you the best possible credits return.

Pair - Two cards that have the same denomination.
Example:

  1. Three of Clubs and Three of Hearts
  2. Queen of Diamonds and Queen of Spades

Quads - Four of a Kind
Example:

  1. Four of Clubs, Four of Hearts, Four of Spades and Four of Diamonds
  2. King of Diamonds, King of Spades, King of Hearts and King of Clubs

Rank - The numerical value assigned to a card.

Suit - Any of the four sets in a deck of cards.
Example:
  • Clubs
  • Diamonds
  • Hearts
  • Spades

Trips - Three of a Kind.
Example:

  1. Five of Hearts, Five of Spades and Five of Diamonds
  2. Jack of Clubs, Jack of Spades and Jack of Hearts

Wild Card - A Wild Card is a card that can be any value the player wants it to be to make up the best possible have. So for example in deuces wild the deuces can be used in place of any other card allowing you to make up a better hand.
